The MQ8 Hydrogen Gas Sensor Module is a highly sensitive sensor designed specifically to detect the presence of hydrogen gas (H₂) in the air. It is widely used in various applications, including safety systems, gas leak detection, and industrial monitoring, due to hydrogen’s flammability and its use in various industrial processes, including fuel cells and hydrogen storage.

Key Features:

Gas Detection: The MQ8 sensor is designed to detect hydrogen gas (H₂), a colorless, odorless, and highly flammable gas. It can also detect low concentrations of other gases such as methane, carbon monoxide (CO), and alcohol, but its primary application is for hydrogen detection.
High Sensitivity: The MQ8 sensor offers high sensitivity to hydrogen, making it ideal for detecting even low concentrations of this gas. This is particularly important in environments where hydrogen gas is used or stored, to prevent potential leaks that could lead to dangerous situations.
Analog Output: The MQ8 provides an analog output that corresponds to the concentration of hydrogen gas detected in the environment. The output voltage increases in proportion to the concentration of gas present.

How It Works:

The MQ8 sensor works by using a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) that reacts with hydrogen gas when it comes into contact with the sensor’s surface.
The sensor has an internal heating element that needs to reach a specific temperature for proper function. When hydrogen gas interacts with the heated surface of the sensor, it causes a chemical reaction that changes the sensor’s resistance.
The resistance change is then converted into an electrical signal that is sent as an analog voltage (proportional to the gas concentration). The digital output can be used to trigger an alert or take action when the concentration exceeds a set threshold.
