Abstract:

The Grip Spy Tree Robot is an innovative climbing device designed for tree inspection, monitoring, and surveillance applications. The robot features a dual-platform walking mechanism that enables smooth vertical movement along tree trunks.

The walking system consists of two platforms, each equipped with a DC motor mounted perpendicularly on the plate. A worm gear is attached to each motor shaft and is connected to a pair of spur gears. The spur gear assembly is fitted with a long axle, which extends outward to support a grip plate. This grip plate is fitted with 2 mm steel spokes that punch into the tree bark, ensuring strong and stable gripping during ascent.

The gripping strips are made of lightweight aluminum, offering an ideal balance of strength, durability, and low weight.

The robot’s upper and lower bodies are connected through a sliding mechanism. This slider enables the two bodies to expand and compress, allowing the robot to alternate grips and climb vertically. The slider is powered by a DC geared motor mounted directly on the slider unit. The motor drives a threaded rod, which moves the upper and lower bodies closer or farther apart, enabling the climbing motion.

With its sturdy mechanical design, gripping spokes, and efficient geared motor system, the Grip Spy Tree Robot is capable of securely climbing trees for inspection, research, and monitoring tasks.
