Abstract – Smart Helmet using Arduino and RF Module
Road safety has become one of the most critical concerns in today’s world, especially for motorcyclists. A Smart Helmet is designed to enhance rider protection by integrating multiple safety features that go beyond the conventional use of a helmet. The primary objective of this project is to ensure rider safety by implementing functions such as alcohol detection, accident identification, fall detection, location tracking, and hands-free communication. The system makes helmet usage compulsory, as the ignition of the bike will not turn ON until the rider wears the helmet.
The Smart Helmet consists of an Arduino microcontroller integrated with sensors and an RF (Radio Frequency) module, which establishes wireless communication between the helmet (transmitter) and the bike’s ignition system (receiver). Alcohol sensors are employed to detect the rider’s sobriety, and if alcohol is detected, the ignition is disabled. The RF module ensures secure and reliable data transmission between the helmet and the vehicle. Additionally, features such as accident/fall detection and location tracking provide emergency alerts for rapid assistance.
By combining advanced electronics with traditional protective headgear, this project provides a comprehensive solution for minimizing road accidents due to negligence and drunk driving. Thus, the Smart Helmet not only enforces helmet usage but also enhances overall road safety.
